Lash technicians, like all beauty technicians, can be like therapists to their clients. The main difference is that when you walk into a therapist's office everyone knows that confidentiality is a law. Make it a law in your beauty quarters to have a confidentiality policy. A policy to treat all information with the rule of silence. If you feel the need to process everything that you have heard by talking to someone - Choose one person you can trust, like a counselor or business coach to chat things out. Keep in mind, processing & gossiping are very different. Even big cities are small towns, don't risk hurting your professional reputation! Hey, being a sacred container for everyone’s secrets is in itself an art form. We form bonds with our clients, it is natural to become privy to lots of juicy details. Even If They Ask, Don't Tell

One component of creating a safe space for clients is that they may know each other due to your referral network. Confidentiality can get slippery when clients ask how the other one is doing. Even if two clients are the best of friends, you never know what they prefer to keep private. When asked to disclose the date you saw last them, be vague. I recommend always saying some variation of ‘I don’t know’ to any question, even when you do know what is going on! I am not advocating that you become a liar, but I am encouraging you to set healthy professional boundaries. To build your reputation as a trustworthy professional, try a 40-day gossip detox.
